Malik Riaz Hussain, a prominent real estate mogul in Pakistan and the founder of Bahria Town, the country’s largest privately-owned real estate development company, has publicly declined to serve as a state witness against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Riaz’s refusal came amidst significant pressure to act against Khan, which he disclosed in a candid message on the social media platform X.

In his statement, Riaz emphasized the intense pressure he has faced for over a year, aimed at compelling him to compromise his principles for political purposes. He articulated his steadfast refusal to be manipulated into the political fray, underscored by his emphatic declaration: “Over my dead body.” This phrase highlights his determination not to yield to the demands he believes would misuse his influence and position.

Riaz’s resistance to being used as a political tool sheds light on the ongoing complexities within Pakistan’s political landscape, where business figures often find themselves at the crossroads of power struggles. His firm stance resonates as a significant instance of a business leader defending his autonomy against political encroachment.

Riaz’s statement has captured the attention of both national and international observers, as it underscores the tensions between significant political and business entities in Pakistan. As this situation evolves, it remains to be seen how it will impact the country’s broader political and economic climate.
