The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced that Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid conditions. However, a reprieve might be on the horizon as thunderstorms with possible rain are forecasted on Sunday as the temperature could reach a high of 39°C, with humidity at 75%.
Karachi and other parts of Sindh enjoyed a brief relief with light showers last Friday. The region endured dry and hot weather for several weeks, but the pattern was disrupted when areas like Larkana, Shikarpur, Shahdadkot, and Jacobabad received rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
In Karachi, neighbourhoods such as North Karachi, New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Garden, Lyari, Saddar, old city areas, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal experienced light rainfall, providing a much-needed break from the intense heat preceding the monsoon season.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz had previously indicated the likelihood of above-normal rainfall in Sindh, including Karachi. He also noted that the monsoon is expected to start in Sindh after July 5 or 6 and in Punjab and Kashmir around June 29 or 30.
