An Indian cricketer has been arrested in Zimbabwe on charges of allegedly raping a local woman in Harare
According to a New Zimbabwe report, the incident took place at Meikles hotel where the Indian team is staying.
While talking to media, Charity Charamba, assistant commissioner Harare police, confirmed the incident.
“There are allegations of rape against an Indian national by a Zimbabwean woman,” said Charamba.
“We have investigated and forwarded the case to the courts for determination and now we are waiting for the outcome. All I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday.”
The incident allegedly took place at Meikles hotel in Harare where the Indian team is staying.
It is also claimed that the victim might have been drugged before being abused by her attacker.
The name of the cricketer has been withheld by the local authorities.
The Indian national cricket team is currently on tour of Zimbabwe, where they whitewashed the hosts in the one-day series. However, the visitors lost their opening T20 match yesterday by 2 runs.
