Iftikhar Choudhary asks constitutional status of PTI MNA

Islamabad: Former chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Hussain Choudhary has asked the legal and constitutional status of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members in national assembly.

In a letter to the National Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Choudhary stated that under Article 64 of the Constitution seat of an MNA falls vacant if he/she remains absent from proceedings of the National Assembly for 40 days.

He questioned how PTI MNAs returned to the National Assembly to take part in joint session of the Parliament.

PTI members submitted their resignations last year but returned to the National Assembly last week after the government constituted a judicial commission to probe alleged rigging 2013 general elections.
