Hyundai Motor, the renowned South Korean automaker, is initiating a recall of approximately 145,235 electric vehicles in the United States due to an identified risk of losing driving power, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall, announced on Friday, targets certain models of Hyundai’s electrified vehicles, specifically the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 EVs, as well as luxury Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70, and Genesis G80 electrified variants spanning the model years 2022-2025.
According to the NHTSA, the core issue stems from the integrated charging control units, which will likely become damaged and cease charging the 12-volt battery. This defect could lead to a sudden loss of drive power while the vehicle is in operation, posing significant safety risks.
To address this concern, Hyundai dealerships will conduct inspections and, if necessary, replace and update the software on the impacted parts alongside the fuse. All these services, including replacing any faulty parts, will be provided at no cost to vehicle owners.
Hyundai has committed to notifying the affected vehicle owners to arrange the necessary repairs at authorized dealerships. This will aim to mitigate any risks associated with this malfunction and ensure the safety and reliability of their vehicles on the road.
