Addressing the National Seed Policy Workshop, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan said that the Seed (Amendment) Bill 2014 had already been cleared by the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on National Food Security and Research. He hoped the assembly would pass the bill in its session starting next week.
The Plant Breeders’ Right Bill had also been submitted to the Cabinet for approval, he said.
These legislative arrangements would help public and private seed sectors perform to the full, he said. Bosan said the seed sector needed upgradation in this “era of innovation and emerging technologies”.
“Pakistan has to increase investment on hybrid cultivars development,” he added.
