Under Section 42-A of the Representation of Peoples’ Act, 1976 and Section 25-A of the Senate (Elections) Act, 197, all members of the parliament and provincial assemblies are required to submit with the ECP annual statements of their families’ assets and liabilities by Sept 30 of each year.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership 212 lawmakers for not declaring their assets as well as liabilities.
The suspended members of national and provincial assemblies and Senate will not be able to work until further directives.
The suspended list includes 40 members of the National Assembly, 2 Senators, 34 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 98 members of the Punjab Assembly, 29 members of Sindh and nine members of the Balochistan Assembly.
