RIYADH: The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted 12 Houthi missiles and two drones over Riyadh and southern Saudi Arabia on Sunday.
Two drones and one ballistic missile targeted the capital, the coalition said. Saudi forces also intercepted a cruise missile heading towards Khamis Mushait.
Ten more ballistic missiles targeted southern parts of the country. Civil defence authorities issued emergency alerts for Riyadh, Abha and Khamis Mushait. Officials later told residents that the danger had passed.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree separately warned airlines, airport workers and travellers against using King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. He described the airport as a continuing “military target”.
The airport resumed operations at two terminals on Sunday after an October 10 attack, which the Houthis said they carried out, killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the earlier attack. They also said they targeted the Riyadh airport and Saudi oil facilities on Saturday. Saudi authorities did not directly confirm those claims.

Fighting has intensified since Houthi forces seized territory along Yemen’s Red Sea coast last month. The advance moved active fronts closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a major global shipping route.
