A petition has been filed in Supreme Court Registry in Lahore challenging the mechanism of appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner, earlier today.
A petitioner in his plea has said that a former judge over 68 years of age could not be appointed on the top post of the election commission.
The petitioner also pleaded that a former prime minister and ex-chief minister do not qualify for the CEC office.
The petitioner has pleaded to the apex court to order the government for appointment of an undisputed person who fulfills merit as the head of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
