Australian media have sparked controversy by harshly criticizing Virat Kohli over his confrontation with Australian cricketer Sam Konstas during the fourth Test in Melbourne.
Despite the International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Andy Pycroft’s decision involving a fine and a demerit point against Kohli, several Australian outlets have escalated the situation with inflammatory remarks.
The altercation occurred when Kohli, the former captain of India, allegedly made deliberate shoulder-to-shoulder contact with Konstas, a 19-year-old making his debut. Kohli pushed Konstas with his shoulder, and the ICC fined him 20 percent of the match fee and gave him one demerit point.
"Have a look where Virat walks. Virat's walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind whatsoever."

However, the resolution did not satisfy Australian media, which used derogatory terms to describe Kohli. The West Australian newspaper notably featured the headline “Clown Kohli,” and further demeaned him by calling him a “sook,” an Australian slang term for a crybaby or coward.
The event and subsequent media coverage prompted a significant backlash, with calls for stricter penalties, including at least one match suspension for Kohli. Despite these opinions, Pycroft deemed the penalties imposed sufficient.

Roger Binny, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), commented on the incident, emphasizing the nature of cricket and the importance of moving past such occurrences to focus on the game. “These things happen on the cricket ground. You have to accept it and carry on. See that the game goes on. That is important,” Binny stated.
Konstas downplayed the incident in a post-match press conference, suggesting the contact was accidental. “I was just adjusting my gloves, and I think he accidentally bumped me. But I think that is just cricket, just the tension,” he explained.
