NEW YORK, United States: The US Open 2026 faced criticism over leaks at Arthur Ashe Stadium, disruptive spectator behaviour and matches extending deep into the early morning.

The repeated water leaks around tournament facilities, including the media centre and a shop beneath a damaged pipe. A water burst also forced a workers’ restaurant to close for one day.

Crowd conduct also drew criticism as spectators filmed social-media videos, used ring lights and stood for selfies during points, while general noise inside Arthur Ashe Stadium frequently disrupted the atmosphere.

Scheduling remained another issue. One quarter-final stretch produced about 16 hours of tennis from 11:30 a.m. Tuesday until 3:33 a.m. Wednesday, renewing scrutiny of the tournament’s late-night finishes.

The women’s competition provided several highlights. The top six players reached the quarter-finals, while the top four occupied all four semi-final places for the first time in 51 years.

Zheng Qinwen also produced two notable comebacks, while Coco Gauff reached the semi-finals after making progress from the serving difficulties that affected her previous season.
