LAHORE, Punjab: The Punjab Green Credit Programme registered more than 142,000 citizens in its first 14 months. This growth came as the cash-incentive environmental scheme expanded to 41 districts, according to publicly reported data.

The programme rewards residents for verified activities including tree planting, waste recycling, water conservation, cycling and adoption of electric vehicles. Punjab’s Environment Protection Department says the initiative currently covers six environmental areas and 32 verified green activities.

Applications are submitted through a digital system. They are then assessed under a Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) framework before green credits are approved and converted into financial rewards.

Publicly reported dashboard figures on August 28 showed 142,451 registrations, an 18% increase from the previous week. Meanwhile, the programme was operating across 41 districts.

Punjab environment officials have also reported cumulative disbursements of PKR 36.5 million. This includes PKR 16.5 million paid during a recent three-month period, for verified activities including electric-vehicle adoption, cycling and plastic-waste recycling.

The programme was initially designed for Lahore before province-wide expansion. Now, participation is open to individuals and communities undertaking approved actions across air, water, waste, land, biodiversity and environmental awareness.
