MURREE, Punjab: Murree traffic congestion intensified over the weekend as a large influx of tourists caused long vehicle queues on the Murree Expressway and other major roads.
Traffic remained particularly heavy on routes entering and leaving the hill station. Authorities advised motorists to plan their journeys and expect delays.
Officials expect the number of visitors to rise further during the continuing holiday period. The increase could place additional pressure on Murree’s road network.
City Traffic Police Murree also intensified its crackdown on motorists driving without valid licences. The operation followed directions from Deputy Inspector General of Traffic, Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir.
Chief Traffic Officer Murree Munir Ahmed Hashmi supervised the campaign, which resulted in hundreds of challans against motorcyclists and other motorists accused of violating traffic laws.

A traffic police spokesperson said officers had established daily checkpoints and were conducting inspections on major roads and at key locations. Police were also taking legal action against offenders.
The spokesperson said driving without a valid licence was an offence and advised motorists to carry their original licences.
Hashmi urged drivers and motorcyclists to follow traffic laws and avoid operating vehicles without valid licences. He said compliance was necessary to protect road users and their property.
Traffic police said the zero-tolerance campaign against unlicensed driving would continue across Murree.
