The Senate Standing Committee on Rules and Privileges yesterday decided to seek an explanation from the governor of the State Bank regarding delays caused by the bank in 21 cases referred to it by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) some 10 years back about privatisation of the Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB).
The Senate body, headed by Tahir Mashhadi, decided to call SBP governor at the next meeting.
Senator Saeed Ghani, on whose motion a meeting of the committee was called, pointed out that the name of the MCB was not present in any of the lists provided by the ministry of finance in response to two questions asked in the Senate regarding number of companies privatised, so far.
During a previous meeting, the committee was informed by two federal secretaries that the government has no record of any probe being conducted into privatisation of the MCB.
