ZHOB, Balochistan: A Zhob bus accident killed at least 40 people and injured eight others after a passenger coach plunged into a ravine in the Danasar area, officials said.
Police said the bus reportedly suffered brake failure before falling into the ravine near the Balochistan-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border.
The injured, including women and children, were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Balochistan Chief Minister’s Adviser on Media Shahid Rind said authorities had confirmed 40 deaths and eight injuries.
Rind said rescue teams from both the Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments joined the response.
He said the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Health Department, Frontier Corps and other agencies had been mobilised.
Preliminary information showed the bus was carrying more passengers than its capacity, according to Rind.
He said passengers from another bus that had broken down earlier were also travelling on the crashed vehicle.
