A viral video has intensified the legal dispute between former world boxing champion Saweety Boora and her husband, ex-Indian Kabaddi captain and Arjuna awardee Deepak Hooda, showing Boora assaulting Hooda inside a Hisar police station.

The incident, captured on camera, depicts Boora suddenly rising from her seat beside Hooda and striking him. This action prompted Hooda to file a complaint the following day, which resulted in an FIR against Boora on March 16.

The couple’s troubles had previously spilt into the legal arena when Boora filed an FIR against Hooda in February, accusing him of dowry harassment. Hooda is now facing several charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including voluntarily causing hurt, criminal breach of trust, and criminal intimidation, confirmed by Hisar SP Shashank Kumar Sawan.

Boora, a gold medalist at the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships, alleges dowry-related harassment by Hooda and his family, including physical assaults and insults. She claimed her family spent about INR 1 crore on the wedding, even borrowing INR 11.59 lakh to meet Hooda’s demand for a Fortuner SUV just days before their wedding.

Hooda, a gold medalist from the 2016 South Asian Games, refutes these allegations, suggesting Boora became distant after receiving the Arjuna Award. He further accuses Boora and her sister of removing valuable items from his Rohtak residence and has filed a complaint alleging mental harassment and criminal intimidation.

The Rohtak police have forwarded the financial allegations to the Economic Offences Wing for investigation.

The marital strife reportedly escalated after Hooda’s defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections, where he ran on a BJP ticket from Rohtak.

As Hisar police continue investigating Boora’s accusations, Rohtak police are handling Hooda’s complaints. Attempts to reach out to Boora for comments have been unsuccessful and Hooda has refrained from discussing the matter publicly, describing it as a “family issue.” The couple was married in July 2022.
