Islamabad authorities have increased vehicle transfer fees, including, for the first time, introducing transfer charges on electric vehicles (EVs) to align with the evolving automotive market and reflect the capital’s administrative efforts to streamline vehicle ownership transitions.

Detailed Fee Structure Update:

  • Conventional Vehicles:
    • Vehicles up to 1,000cc will now have a transfer fee of PKR 2,750, up from PKR 1,200.
    • For vehicles ranging from 1,000cc to 1,800cc, the fee has escalated to PKR 5,500 from PKR 2,000.
    • The most substantial increase applies to cars exceeding 1,800cc, with fees rising to PKR 11,000 from the previous PKR 3,000.
  • Electric Vehicles (EVs):
    • EVs with battery capacities up to 50 kilowatts are subject to a new fee of PKR 2,500.
    • Those between 50kW and 100kW will incur a transfer fee of PKR 5,500.
    • For EVs over 100kW, the transfer charge is set at PKR 10,000.
  • Motorbikes:
    • Transfer fees for bikes up to 200cc have increased to PKR 550 from PKR 150.
    • Bikes between 200cc and 400cc will now be charged PKR 1,000.
    • Motorbikes exceeding 400cc have a new fee of PKR 1,500.

The revised fees, effective immediately, will be deposited into accounts designated by the Ministry of Finance. This measure is part of broader efforts to enhance fiscal management and ensure the efficient processing of vehicle transfers in the capital.

This revision in vehicle transfer fees, particularly the inclusion of electric vehicles, indicates a progressive step towards accommodating the growing presence of EVs in Pakistan’s automotive landscape. It also aligns with global trends promoting environmentally friendly transportation options while ensuring that administrative and fiscal measures keep pace with technological advancements.
