Nintendo Switch 2 Launches with Upgraded Features and Mario Kart World

Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch 2, its first new gaming platform in eight years, succeeding the wildly successful original Switch.

The launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 features a hybrid console with a larger screen, enhanced graphics, redesigned Joy-Con 2 controllers, and improved social features. This release is supported by an impressive lineup of games, including Mario Kart World, as announced during an April 2025 Nintendo Direct presentation.

Pre-orders, which were delayed due to U.S. tariffs, opened on April 24, and available stock quickly sold out.

Powered by a custom Nvidia T239 processor with DLSS upscaling and ray tracing, the Switch 2 offers enhanced performance, per ZDNET. Its 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen supports 1080p at 120Hz with HDR10 in handheld mode and 4K at 60Hz when docked, per The Verge. The console includes 256GB UFS storage, expandable to 2TB via microSD Express cards.

The Joy-Con 2 controllers feature magnetic attachment, mouse functionality, HD rumble 2, and a 500mAh battery lasting up to 20 hours. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, two USB-C ports, and a LAN port on the dock.
