The Driving License Branch and a private telecom company have made a system which can determine if driving licenses’ are authentic or fake within seconds.

Traffic policemen will now be able to tell within 30 seconds if a driver’s licence is fake or authentic.

“Traffic policemen in Karachi will be issued a special SIM and given a four digit number on which they can SMS the driving license number. They will receive a response if the license is fake or real within 30 seconds,” DIG Driving Licence Branch Aftab Pathan told Geo News.

In the past it would take up to 25-30 days but the process will now be instantaneous after driving license data from 1992 was computerised. The system for acquiring a new licence has also been changed.
