KUWAIT CITY: A Kuwait traffic crackdown recorded 34,375 violations and led to the arrest of 70 wanted people during nationwide operations from September 7 to 13, authorities said.
The General Traffic Department carried out the campaign under the Ministry of Interior’s Traffic and Operations Sector. Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Azmi supervised the operations, Arab Times said.
Authorities also apprehended 47 people whose residency permits had expired. In addition, five people could not provide valid identification documents.
Meanwhile, officers referred 21 juveniles to the Juvenile Prosecution. They also placed 17 people in traffic detention. Authorities referred three suspects to the Drug Control General Department.
Authorities also detained two other people after describing them as being in an abnormal condition. The Kuwait traffic crackdown also targeted vehicles linked to outstanding cases and serious traffic violations.
Officers impounded 24 wanted vehicles. They also seized 250 cars and five motorcycles after recording various violations.
During the same week, traffic officers responded to 2,625 general traffic reports. They also handled 1,170 road accidents. That total included 957 collisions and 213 crashes involving injuries.

The General Traffic Department said officers took legal measures in accordance with traffic rules and regulations. Meanwhile, patrols continued field monitoring across Kuwait’s roads.
The Ministry of Interior says the General Traffic Department is responsible for enforcing traffic laws, issuing licences and processing traffic violations.
Separately, the ministry has continued targeted traffic campaigns in individual areas. An official September operation in Shuwaikh Industrial Area produced 50 traffic violations and 217 administrative vehicle impoundments.

Authorities said the wider enforcement effort aims to improve traffic discipline and road safety. It also targets conduct that obstructs traffic flow or endangers road users.
The General Traffic Department said such campaigns will continue across Kuwait as officers work to reduce violations, respond to accidents and enforce traffic regulations.
