LOS ANGELES, United States: A Kristy McNichol photo shared by Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson on Facebook on July 20 showed the retired actor during a rare public update.
Wilson said she was “totally fangirling” after meeting one of her childhood idols. She told McNichol that her films had been meaningful during her youth, according to People.
The singer specifically mentioned the 1980 coming-of-age film “Little Darlings” and the 1978 comedy “The End.” She also called McNichol a “gracious sweetie.”
McNichol, 63, rose to prominence as Letitia “Buddy” Lawrence in the ABC drama “Family.” The Television Academy lists four Emmy nominations and two supporting-actress wins for the role in 1977 and 1979.

She later starred opposite Tatum O’Neal in “Little Darlings” and played Barbara Weston in NBC’s “Empty Nest,” a spinoff of “The Golden Girls.”

McNichol officially retired from acting in 2001. In a 2014 interview with People, she said she left the entertainment industry partly because she wanted to explore life beyond show business.
