Karachi water supply was temporarily suspended in several areas after thieves stole a major K-Electric cable powering the North East Karachi pumping station, KWSC said.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation said the theft occurred at 11:00 a.m. and immediately stopped pumping operations at the NEK pumping station. The shutdown disrupted water provision to multiple parts of the city.
KWSC said the affected areas include Saddar, Clifton, Chanesar Goth, Surjani Town and New Karachi. Officials said supply will resume after workers restore the electrical connection to the pumping station.
K-Electric teams reached the site and began restoring power. KWSC officials said they would restore the water supply to affected localities as soon as the power link is restored.
Cable theft has disrupted city services before, raising calls for stronger preventive measures. Officials did not immediately announce any arrests linked to the latest theft.
