Actress Jenny McCarthy says Tom Cruise tried to recruit her into Scientology. She also recalled feeling frightened during his 2006 wedding festivities with Katie Holmes.
McCarthy discussed the experiences on Thursday’s episode of “The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show”. Her guest was former Scientologist Anne Gollert Hill.
At the rehearsal dinner, McCarthy sat opposite Cruise and Holmes with her then-partner, actor Jim Carrey. She recalled asking to hold their infant daughter, Suri, after a nanny brought the child to Holmes.
According to McCarthy, guests stopped talking and stared as Holmes handed her the baby. Conversations resumed once she returned the child. “I’ve never been so scared in my life,” she said.

McCarthy also described meeting Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, who served as Cruise’s best man. She recalled joking about his selection and feeling that he disliked her remark. Miscavige later delivered a lengthy wedding speech.
Separately, McCarthy claimed Carrey declined repeated invitations to Cruise’s Aspen home because he believed the visits would involve recruitment attempts. In her account, Carrey told her he had previously rejected approaches to join Scientology.
