Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), urged his supporters and team members to prepare for a nationwide “Jail Bharo” movement on Saturday.
Khan’s remarks follow the filing of sedition charges against his party’s Senior Vice-President, Fawad Chaudhry and former National Assembly member Shandana Gulzar, as well as the earlier arrests of Senator Azam Swati and Shahbaz Gill for speaking out against the military.
During his televised speech, the deposed prime minister stated that his party had the option of calling a nationwide strike but decided against it due to concerns that the nation’s economy might continue to deteriorate.
“There are two options available to us: given what they have been doing, we could have chosen a wheel-jam strike and demonstrations, which is also a viable and democratic option. “.
“However, it will get worse because of how bad the economy is. I, therefore, ask all of my employees, the people of Pakistan, and everyone else to get ready for the Jail Bharo movement,” Khan said.
Speaking to the youth and the country, the former premier also stated that his party would not remain silent regarding the violence inflicted on its members. “Instead of wreaking havoc, we would now organize the Jail Bharo movement. “.
The PTI leader said, “It was their strategy to intimidate and threaten Tehreek-e-Insaf to weaken them.
According to Khan, the center-left government led by the Pakistan Democratic Movement has committed far more atrocities during its rule than his party has.
“Fawad Chaudhry was picked up from home at three in the morning. How did Shandana Gulzar act in a terrorist manner? More cases against Sheikh Rashid are being brought as the court grants him bail, the PTI chairman claimed, reiterating that the authorities have targeted everyone who called for a regime change.
