Mountain View, California: Gemini 3.5 Flash is becoming the default model in Gemini and AI Mode as Google rolls out major app upgrades at Google I/O.
Google called the model its strongest yet for agentic and coding tasks. The company said its speed and performance support long-horizon AI workflows.
Google also introduced Neural Expressive, a new design language for the Gemini app. It adds fluid animations, vibrant colours, new typography and haptic feedback.
The redesigned app includes a larger “Ask Gemini” bar. Meanwhile, users will see a soft blue gradient near the bottom of the screen. Neural Expressive starts rolling out on Android, iOS and the web from Tuesday.
Google is also adding Gemini Live directly into the main Gemini chat flow. Users can tap the Live button next to the Ask Gemini bar to start a voice conversation.
As a result, users no longer need to open a separate screen for live voice mode. Google said Gemini will also create tailored responses with images, timelines and videos.
The model also powers Gemini Spark, Google’s new consumer AI agent. The company said Spark can help users manage background tasks under their direction. Google said Gemini 3.5 Pro remains in development and will roll out in June. In addition, the company announced an Android version of its AI Studio vibe coding tool.

Gemini 3.5 Flash now anchors Google’s consumer AI push across chat, agents and AI Mode. However, the rollout also ties the model to a broader redesign of the Gemini experience. Google announced Gemini 3.5 Flash as the new default model in Gemini and AI Mode, alongside a redesign of the Neural Expressive app.
