Pakistan will constitute anti-terror military courts after a number of amendments in a spate of legislation.
“The political and military leadership of the country agreed on amending Protection of Pakistan Act, Army Act, Navy Act, and Air Force Act in order to set special military courts in motion,” said a declaration issued at the end of an exhaustive national security meeting.
The amendments will be added in the first schedule of the constitution where laws are immune to any legal challenges under Article 8(3).
According to Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid, after cruising through National Assembly tomorrow (Saturday), the amendments would unanimously pass the Senate on Tuesday January 6, 2015.
“After the passage of amendment bill Pakistan’s counterterrorism National Action Plan will launch officially,” the minister said.
Following the constitutional amendments, senior military officers will start hearing the terror-related cases in said courts
It must be noted that military courts are being established for a period of two years.
