AL MOKHA, Yemen: A cargo ship attack killed three crew members in the southern Red Sea on August 11. Yemeni sources blamed the Houthis, who control the capital, Sanaa.
Two Pakistani nationals and one Indonesian national died aboard the Tanzania-flagged Tihamah near Bab el-Mandeb, Reuters reported. Egyptian companies own and manage the ship, according to Reuters.
United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said an unknown projectile hit a cargo vessel off Al Mokha. It reported casualties but did not confirm the ship’s name or death toll.

Ambrey placed the vessel at anchor northeast of Yemen’s Perim Island during the incident. Yemeni sources said the crew lost control before the coastguard rescued the survivors.

The Tihamah had sailed from Salalah, Oman, through Djibouti before reaching the southern Red Sea, the sources said. The Houthis had not claimed responsibility as of publication, Reuters reported. UKMTO said authorities were investigating and advised vessels to transit cautiously.
