Canadian actor and writer Mike Myers says “Austin Powers 4” is taking shape from Dr. Evil’s perspective, offering a new indication of his plans for the comedy sequel.
The 63-year-old discussed the project on “Hollywood Insiders with Hawk Koch”. A clip shared on Instagram was covered by entertainment publications on Thursday.
Myers described the planned film as “more from Dr. Evil’s point of view, so far”.
He also recalled resisting an early studio suggestion to reduce the villain’s screen time. After a screening, executives had argued that audiences disliked Dr. Evil because he was mean to Austin.
Myers disagreed, believing the character’s scenes were getting laughs. He explained that he didn’t see the films as a straightforward division between heroes and villains. His impression was that fans enjoyed Dr. Evil almost as much as Austin Powers.
Myers played both characters in the original three films, released between 1997 and 2002. The comedies parodied 1960s spy-film conventions.
The most recent entry, “Austin Powers in Goldmember”, featured Beyoncé, Michael Caine, Seth Green and Verne Troyer, alongside numerous celebrity cameos.
Myers had already indicated in June that he intended to make another instalment. Appearing with his son Spike at Trevor Noah’s World Cup livestream watch party, he immediately said yes when asked about a fourth film.

However, the latest comments did not provide a release date or filming schedule. His qualification about the current direction leaves the sequel’s final story open.
Myers appeared in the Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” this year. He is also returning as the voice of Shrek in the fifth film in the animated franchise. DreamWorks lists “Shrek 5” for theatrical release on June 30, 2027.
