Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) Tuesday rejected all the petitions seeking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification and termed them “political”.
A seven-member larger bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk heard the identical petitions filed by Gohar Nawaz Sindhu, PTI leader Ishaq Khakwani and PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
The petitioners seek PM to be disqualified for the public office over his Aug 29 speech in joint parliament session in which he mentioned army chief’s role as ‘facilitator’ in talks between government and protesting parties.
During the hearing, Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that there is no contradiction in the statements of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Director General of Inter Services Public Relations Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa.
