Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to meet the Army chief General Raheel Sharif later today according to media reports.
The meeting comes hours after convicted Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist, Saulat Mirza’s execution was halted following a confessional video just a few hours from his execution.
The army chief and premier are expected to review Mirza’s statement. Further, the Karachi operation and a case filed against MQM chief Altaf Hussain by Rangers are also on the agenda of the meeting.
Just hours before his execution, MQM worker Saulat Mirza alleged in a televeised video confession that he killed former KESC Director Shahid Hamid on the directives of party chief Altaf Hussain.
According to the video released by a private television channel late night yesterday, Mirza alleged that he received the order for the ‘hit’ from Altaf at MQM leader Babar Ghauri’s residence.
Mirza revealed that orders were given on telephone by the party chief himself. Usually, the party chief would either give orders himself or through the likes of Babar Ghauri.
Saulat said he was not appealing to commute his sentence, but was asking to delay it.
