Seattle, Washington: The United States beat Australia 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match on Friday to reach the knockout round.
The United States went ahead in the 11th minute. Folarin Balogun drove down the left and sent the ball toward Ricardo Pepi before Australia defender Cameron Burgess turned it into his own net.
Alex Freeman doubled the lead in the 43rd minute. He headed in after Sergiño Dest’s deflected effort, and officials confirmed the goal after a video review.
The United States men’s national team won without Christian Pulisic. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino ruled him out before the match because of a calf injury, NBC Sports reported.
Thousands of supporters from both teams attended the match in Seattle. Fans later gathered in Pioneer Square after the United States victory.
