Iranian army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said on Saturday that US war aims included overthrowing the Islamic Republic and breaking up the country.
He said Washington and its allies sought more than action against Iran’s nuclear program and missile capabilities. Their objectives extended to the resistance front, according to his account.
Separately, President Donald Trump of the United States claimed that Tehran was abandoning plans to acquire nuclear weapons. He spoke to reporters as he left the White House’s South Lawn in Washington on Saturday.

“Iran is virtually giving up any plans of a nuclear weapon,” Trump told reporters. Meanwhile, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader warned the United Arab Emirates that security obtained from abroad would not last indefinitely.
Iran’s army spokesman accused Washington and its allies of seeking the Islamic Republic’s overthrow and Iran’s breakup.
