TEHRAN: Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said on Tuesday that the US economic war would fail. He rejected pressure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Writing on X, Rezaei challenged US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s assessment of Washington’s blockade. Bessent has argued that the measures severely damage Iran’s economy.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on the impact of Washington’s economic and maritime measures on Tehran. Rezaei asserted that attempts to present the U.S. economic blockade on Iran as a success have fallen short.
“Hormuz will not be opened by threats or pressure,” he wrote. The Strait of Hormuz remains all but closed, while attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East have forced output cuts as storage fills up.
US President Donald Trump said short-term moves in oil are a “very small price to pay” for “safety and peace.” Rezaei also accused Washington of failing to achieve its military objectives against Iran.

He predicted that economic pressure would produce the same outcome. By contrast, Bessent has maintained that the maritime blockade would eventually force Tehran to agree and reopen the strait.
“Bessent’s delusional forecasts never had any credibility in the first place. His latest propaganda will have an equally short shelf life. You lost the military war. You will fail in the economic war, too. Hormuz will not open to threats or pressure. Iran will not back down.”
