WASHINGTON: The Trump UN address at the United Nations next Tuesday will emphasise preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and highlight the administration’s Gaza peace plan, U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz said Friday.
Waltz said President Donald Trump would use the speech to present what his administration considers progress on international conflicts and diplomatic agreements. He specifically cited Iran and the administration’s 20-point Gaza plan.
Trump will also meet leaders of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council during his New York visit. The group includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman.
The Gulf talks come as Trump weighs Washington’s next steps in the war with Iran. He told Axios on September 17 that he faced a “big decision” and wanted to hear directly from Gulf partners before deciding how to proceed.

Waltz also said Trump would meet British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Officials also plan a brief meeting with Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez during the gathering.

The Trump UN address will take place during the 81st General Assembly’s general debate, which begins September 22 at United Nations headquarters in New York and runs through September 28.
