COLUMBIA, United States: Trump boos South Carolina supporters delivered Tuesday night following Ralph Norman’s defeat by Senator Darline Graham in the state’s Republican US Senate runoff.
The crowd reacted when Norman, a US representative, acknowledged President Donald Trump’s intervention in the race during his concession speech.
Norman said Trump had the right to endorse Graham but added that he did not understand why the president became involved. He later said he would accept the result and support Graham.
Graham defeated Norman with about 52% of the vote to roughly 48%, according to election results reported by major US outlets. Trump had endorsed Graham and campaigned with her in Myrtle Beach before the August 25 runoff.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed Graham to the Senate after her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham, died in July. She sought the Republican nomination for a full six-year term.
Norman also criticised outside spending in the contest, saying millions of dollars in political action committee money had been directed against his campaign.

Graham will face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in the November election.
