Washington: US President Donald Trump will deliver an election security address from the White House East Room at 9 p.m. EDT Thursday, or 6 a.m. PKT Friday.
The speech comes as Republicans prepare for the November 2026 midterm elections. Trump has said he will announce “big news” concerning voting systems and election integrity.
The White House had not confirmed the final contents of the address before its scheduled start.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said reports about the planned remarks remained speculative and that Trump would decide which issues to include.
Trump has urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act. The measure would require applicants to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote and identification at polling places.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Republican lawmakers were focused on winning the 2026 elections rather than reopening disputes over the 2020 presidential result. The US Senate identifies Thune as its current majority leader.
Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called on television networks to avoid broadcasting unsupported claims.
