US President Barack Obama called upon Pakistan to dismantle terrorist organizations and uproot their safe havens in the country. He also urged Pakistan to prosecute those responsible for the Mumbai attacks in 2008.
Speaking to India Today ahead of his India visit, Obama condemned the Peshawar terrorist attack, saying the massacre of school children and teachers shocked the entire world.
Giving an interview to the Indian media, Obama was of the view, “Like people around the world, Americans were horrified at the senseless slaughter of so many students and teachers at the school in Peshawar, which was a painful reminder that terrorists threaten us all.”
Though Washington and Islamabad, he asserted, are working in concert for the eradication of terrorism; the terrorist hideouts in Pakistan are not acceptable to the US.
“I’ve made it clear that even as the United States works with Pakistan to meet the threat of terrorism, safe havens within Pakistan are not acceptable and that those behind the Mumbai terrorist attack must face justice.” he asserted.
