Victor Wembanyama scored 32 points as the San Antonio Spurs beat the New York Knicks 115-111 on Monday to cut the NBA Finals series deficit to 2-1.
Wembanyama added eight rebounds and six assists in his first NBA Finals win at Madison Square Garden. The Spurs also ended the Knicks’ 13-game winning streak.
The Knicks suffered their first loss in 46 days and missed a chance to move within one win of their first championship since 1973.
Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox hit key late shots as San Antonio avoided a 3-0 series hole. No NBA team has recovered from that deficit to win a series.
Castle finished with 23 points for the Spurs, who are trying to become the first team to win the NBA Finals after losing the first two games at home.
Jalen Brunson scored 32 points for New York, while OG Anunoby added 28. The Knicks had not lost since April 23, when they fell to Atlanta in Game 3 of their first-round series.
