Showrunner Ira Parker said filming “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” season 2 became “10 times harder” than season 1 after extreme weather repeatedly halted production in Spain.
Parker told The Hollywood Reporter that the team selected Gran Canaria for its heat and dry conditions, which are required by the season’s drought-focused story. A rare storm instead flooded locations and triggered national emergencies, he said.
Production entered a hiatus after crews lost access to several locations. Parker said the severe weather returned after filming resumed, creating repeated stops and preventing the six-episode season from establishing a consistent production schedule.
The showrunner said three weeks of filming remained at the time of the interview. He maintained that the season was targeting an early 2027 premiere, while HBO has officially confirmed a broader 2027 release window.
Season 2 adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Sworn Sword,” which follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg during a severe drought. Season 1 adapted “The Hedge Knight.”

Parker credited lead actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell with handling the difficult production more smoothly after gaining experience during the first season. Claffey plays Dunk, while Ansell portrays Egg. HBO renewed the series before its January 2026 debut.
