Sean Combs, widely known as Diddy, has formally appealed to the court for early release. He is serving a four-year federal sentence related to prostitution offences.
The 56-year-old artist, currently held at FCI Fort Dix, submitted the appeal through his legal team. His lawyers argue that the punishment is disproportionate and exceeds what the jury’s verdict supports. Combs was transferred from MDC Brooklyn to Fort Dix in October.
According to court filings, Combs is housed in a specialised drug treatment unit. He remains ineligible for release until 2028 under the current sentence.
While the rapper was convicted on prostitution-related charges, a jury acquitted him of more serious allegations. These included racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. His legal team contends that the sentencing judge improperly relied on evidence linked to those acquitted charges. This reliance, they say, led to a significantly longer prison term than is typical for similar cases.

Attorneys maintain that this approach violated fundamental sentencing principles and unfairly penalised Combs for conduct the jury explicitly rejected.

Since entering federal custody, Combs has kept a low profile. He is reportedly complying with prison regulations. Additionally, he is participating in rehabilitation programmes and focusing on personal improvement. Sources close to him say he remains engaged with his legal and business teams. Furthermore, he is planning for life after incarceration.
The appeal has drawn close attention from legal experts and fans alike. If successful, it could result in a reduced sentence or an earlier release. This would potentially reshape the outcome of one of the most closely watched celebrity legal cases in recent years.
