The Logan Paul Pikachu Illustrator card sale has rewritten trading card history, with the rare Pokémon collectable fetching a record-breaking $16.5 million at auction.

The YouTuber-turned-WWE superstar originally purchased the ultra-rare card in 2021 for $5.2 million through a private sale. Now, just a few years later, he has sold it for the highest price ever paid for a trading card.

The Pikachu Illustrator Pokémon card, often referred to as the “King of Collectables,” is one of the rarest cards in existence. Fewer than 40 copies are believed to exist, which significantly increases its value among collectors.

Illustrated by Atsuko Nishida, one of Pikachu’s original designers, the card was never released in booster packs. Instead, it was awarded exclusively to winners of the CoroCoro Comic Illustration contest in Japan during the late 1990s.

Why the Pikachu Illustrator Card Is So Valuable

The historic Logan Paul Pikachu Illustrator card sale took place through online auction house Goldin. The winning bid was confirmed in the presence of a Guinness World Records adjudicator, officially recognising it as the most expensive trading card ever sold at auction.

Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) awarded the card a Gem Mint PSA 10 grade, the highest possible rating. Cards are evaluated based on condition, including gloss, edges, centring, and overall sharpness.

Collectors consider a PSA 10 grade extremely rare, especially for vintage Pokémon cards. This top-tier rating further boosted the card’s market value and appeal.

The record-breaking sale highlights the growing global demand for rare trading cards and high-grade collectables.

With this milestone, the Pikachu Illustrator card cements its status as a symbol of elite collecting and pop culture history.
