The Kim Jong Un rocket launcher ceremony in Pyongyang drew global attention after the North Korean leader was seen personally driving a nuclear-capable multiple rocket launcher during a high-profile event.

According to the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the 600mm-calibre system was displayed as a symbol of what officials described as “absolute power” ahead of a major Party Congress.

Kim reportedly reviewed the weaponry lined up at the venue and praised the system’s capabilities.

During the Kim Jong Un rocket launcher ceremony, the leader highlighted the destructive potential of the 600mm multiple rocket launcher. He described the system as comparable to short-range ballistic missiles and claimed it enhances North Korea’s artillery strength.

KCNA reported that Kim personally drove the launcher vehicle during the public display.

The ceremony comes as North Korea prepares for a key Party Congress, a five-yearly event aimed at setting long-term national policies on economic development and defence strategy.

The military showcase coincides with continued international scrutiny of North Korea’s weapons development.

Observers note that Pyongyang has maintained close ties with Russia amid the war in Ukraine. Analysts suggest that military cooperation and battlefield experience could influence North Korea’s defence strategy and technical development.

Earlier, Kim inaugurated a housing district reportedly dedicated to families of soldiers who died while fighting alongside Russian forces.

The Kim Jong Un rocket launcher ceremony signals a continued emphasis on strengthening defence capabilities as the country outlines future policies at the upcoming Party Congress.

Public displays of advanced weapon systems often serve both domestic and international messaging purposes.

By showcasing the 600mm launcher, North Korea reinforces its focus on artillery modernisation. At the same time, the event underscores Pyongyang’s intent to project military readiness amid heightened regional tensions.
