Salman Butt, the former captain of the Pakistan Cricket team, has received a job offer from the Afghanistan Cricket Board (AFB) following his recent removal from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection panel.
Butt, along with Kamran Akmal and Iftikhar Anjum, was initially appointed as a consultant to the PCB’s chief selector. Their tenure was set to begin ahead of Pakistan’s T20I series against New Zealand in January. However, due to significant public backlash, the PCB decided to remove Salman Butt from this consultancy role.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has now approached Salman Butt, offering him the position of Batting Consultant for Afghanistan’s upcoming cricket series against India. This series is scheduled to take place next month.
PCB’s Decision to Remove Butt
Following an outcry from various quarters, the PCB reevaluated Butt’s appointment as a consultant. Pakistan chief selector Wahab Riaz, addressing a press conference, stated, “Salman Butt’s appointment as consultant was under consideration. Now we have decided that we are not appointing him.”
Wahab Riaz also mentioned the controversy surrounding Butt’s potential role in the selection team. He explained that due to the significant amount of discussion and debate about Butt and himself, he decided to reverse the decision and informed Butt that he would not be part of the selection team.
