Islamabad: The Safar moon was sighted in Pakistan, and Thursday, July 16, 2026, will mark the first day of Safar-ul-Muzaffar 1448 AH.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony issued an official notification after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the crescent sighting.
Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad announced the decision following a meeting at the ministry in Islamabad.
He said the committee received credible moon-sighting testimonies from several parts of Pakistan. Reports came from Nokkundi, parts of Sindh and other areas.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said weather conditions remained clear in most regions, although some locations experienced cloud cover.
The committee reviewed the testimonies and unanimously confirmed that the Safar-ul-Muzaffar crescent had been sighted.
The ministry subsequently notified July 16 as 1 Safar 1448 AH across Pakistan.
