Singer Rod Stewart faced criticism after posting an Instagram video of himself travelling to a World Cup match hours after cancelling a California concert due to health issues.
Stewart shared the June 13 video while flying to Boston on a private jet with his sons, Liam and Alistair. He said he was going to watch Scotland play at the World Cup.
The post drew backlash from fans who said Stewart had cancelled his Chula Vista, California, performance less than an hour before showtime.
Several social media users questioned how the musician could travel to a sporting event after cancelling a concert for which fans had bought tickets and travelled to attend.
Stewart said in the video that Scotland’s return to the world stage was special because the team had not appeared there for nearly three decades. He also said he had attended seven previous tournaments.
Later that day, Stewart was seen celebrating Scotland’s win over Haiti from the stands.

A day earlier, Stewart’s team said the singer had been diagnosed with an acute upper respiratory infection that caused laryngitis and prevented him from performing.
