LOS ANGELES: Actress Rebecca Gayheart says her teenage daughters are adjusting to school while grieving their father, Eric Dane, seven months after his death.
Gayheart spoke on Friday at Step Up’s 2026 Annual Inspiration Awards at the Skirball Cultural Center. She said Billie Beatrice, 16, and Georgia Geraldine, 14, were both back in high school. “We’re hanging in there,” Gayheart said.
She described the period as challenging and said she was concentrating on staying close to her children. Gayheart also relies on friends and family when dealing with difficult days.
Dane died on February 19 at age 53 after living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He had previously made his diagnosis public.

Gayheart and Dane married in 2004 and filed for divorce in 2018. She asked to dismiss the divorce case in March 2025, with both parties signing the documents.
During Dane’s illness, Gayheart became closely involved in his care. She later wrote that she managed his care team and dealt with health insurance arrangements to secure the support he needed.

Gayheart has previously said she encouraged Billie and Georgia to remain present for their father during his illness. Her latest comments focused on keeping the family close as both daughters continue school.
