Rangers were deployed in Lahore at the request of the Punjab government to ensure security in the provincial capital. The government had asked the interior ministry to deploy Rangers in Lahore until August 14 and had also sent a letter to the ministry in this regard.
Five companies of Rangers will be posted at important buildings, including Governor House, during this time.
The imposition of Article 245 was not required to deploy Rangers personnel in Lahore as they are not part of the army, but are a security organization under the ministry of interior.
