The Punjab government has opened the application portal for the submission of applications for the province’s first E-Taxi Scheme under its “Transport Vision 2030.” Applications are open until October 5, 2025, at e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk.

Under the “Transport Vision 2030” initiative, 1,100 electric taxis are introduced to promote eco-friendly travel, cut fuel costs, and enhance urban mobility. It also creates jobs and reduces air pollution, benefiting residents and the environment.

The scheme starts with 1,100 electric taxis in its first phase. Of these, 1,000 go to fleet owners (minimum 10 vehicles each), and 1,000 to individual drivers registered with Transport Network Companies (TNCs). Among individual slots, 70 are for men and 30 for women. Officials say it will lower emissions, save on fuel, and offer modern rides while generating employment.

To make electric taxis affordable, the government has partnered with banks for loans up to Rs6.5 million, covering interest costs. Buyers pay a subsidised down payment. For vehicles priced Rs4-10 million, Punjab contributes Rs585,000 toward the initial payment. This support helps drivers start with low costs.
