The Punjab government plans to purchase luxury vehicles for Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentary secretaries, totalling Rs. 61.2475 million for 76 cars.
According to sources, 22 vehicles will be acquired for the parliamentary secretaries at costs ranging from Rs. 22 to 29 million each and 15 vehicles for the S&GAD department at Rs. 9.96 million each. The Additional Chief Secretary of Punjab initiated the request for these purchases.
In a related development, the Sindh government also planned to buy new vehicles worth Rs2 billion for assistant commissioners. The general administration department requested Rs2 billion from the finance department to purchase new double-cabin vehicles intended for daily office use for 138 assistant commissioners.
However, this decision was contested in the Sindh High Court (SHC) following a petition by Jamaat-e-Islami MPA Muhammad Farooq, who argued that buying SUVs was an unnecessary expense of public funds. Consequently, after evaluating arguments from both parties, the court halted the implementation of the Sindh government’s notification to purchase these vehicles.
