Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) criticises Punjab’s purchase of a luxury jet, alleging that the provincial government is pursuing an expensive Gulfstream business jet while citizens face economic hardship.

Sheikh Waqas Akram, PTI’s Information Secretary, reacted to reports circulating on social media about the acquisition of a luxury jet reportedly worth between $38–42 million. He questioned the timing of such spending amid inflation, unemployment and economic pressure on households.

According to his statement, the reported purchase contradicts public messaging about austerity and fiscal responsibility.

Waqas described the alleged acquisition as a “lavish expenditure,” arguing that it reflects a disconnect between leadership and public hardship. He said the government must justify the value of such an asset if public funds are involved.

Public money should reflect public priorities. When governments begin to spend like multinational corporations, citizens are right to ask: who is the state really serving?

The PTI spokesperson also warned that citizens would hold officials accountable if national resources are misused for personal comfort or VIP travel. The Punjab government has not publicly responded to the specific allegations at the time of reporting.

In the same statement, PTI raised concerns about the health of former prime minister Imran Khan. Waqas called for immediate and unrestricted access for Khan’s personal physicians.

He said that transparency is essential and that any required medical examinations, including diagnostic procedures, should be conducted without delay. If necessary, Khan should be allowed to visit a hospital or diagnostic centre of his choice.

Waqas described the issue as one of public trust and responsibility, stressing that uncertainty about the former prime minister’s health has intensified public concern.

The party stated that further delays would be unacceptable and urged the government to provide clear and verified medical information. The dual issues of the reported jet purchase and Imran Khan’s health have added to the province’s ongoing political tensions.
